Between both the spring and fall seasons, the Blue Hens will play a total of 18 games this year. Seven home games, including three straight non-league matchups to open the season, highlight the 2012 football schedule. Delaware State returns to the road the following Saturday (Oct. 2) to take on another first-time opponent, Wagner College of the FCS Northeast Conference. The Seahawks played two of four scheduled games in the spring (0-2) and posted a 1-11 mark during the 2019 season. DOVER, Del., June 2, 2021 —Delaware State is scheduled to play a school record-tying number of home games, including six of the first eight contests, during its 2021 football season.
Rankings from STATS PollThe 2020 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team represented the University of Delaware in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by fourth-year head coach Danny Rocco, and played their home games at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Delaware. With the unique spring season, Delaware is scheduled to play 18 games in the calendar year. The Hornets will play seven games at Alumni Stadium this fall, including three of their five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contests. The number of home games this coming season matches the modern-day school record set during the 2019 campaign. Dixie State's football schedule for the fall of 2021 will see some overhaul, with changes coming right in the heart of its schedule.
Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference, which announced Thursday to suspend spring football. The conference already had said it would not hold a fall schedule but would play in the spring, when it expected COVID-19 to be less of a problem. Nevertheless, the Spring and Fall 2021 FCS football seasons will pose difficult challenges for Delaware.
With uncertainties regarding the roster and preparation for the fall, Coach Rocco will have his hands full. But before the Blue Hens look forward to a full fall slate, the Spring 2021 season gives Delaware an opportunity to make up for lost time in a competitive CAA North. For the Spring 2021 season, the CAA divided its teams into two divisions, a north and south division, with the primary goal being to limit travel and ensure safety for its teams. With the release of the Fall 2021 schedule, the CAA will be abandoning that format as its teams will return to a full schedule as opposed to this spring's shortened schedule. Another aspect of the hectic 2021 schedule is how the turn around for the fall season will look.
Delaware originally had a game scheduled against Delaware State , but it was canceled on July 16 due to the MEAC's decision to cancel fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The University of Delaware will open its 2021 fall football season with a Colonial Athletic Association clash at Maine, the CAA and UD announced Wednesday morning. NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware and Colonial Athletic Association have announced the 2021 fall football schedule with the Blue Hens set to host six contests inside Delaware Stadium.
The Hornets will play their next three 2021 games at home, beginning with an Oct. 9 contest against Virginia University of Lynchburg. Virginia Lynchburg did not compete in 2020 or this spring, and was 0-9 in 2019. Plus, DSU needs to focus on the upcoming spring season, which may have a few alterations depending on the status of sports in the state of New Mexico.
DSU has multiple football games scheduled every year from now until 2028. Boothe said a game against Tarleton State might be in that 2021 fall schedule, but that all depends on the WAC, which will be competing as a football conference come fall 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Football Championship Subdivision moved what would have been the Fall 2020 football season to the spring of 2021. All attendees at University of Delaware's football athletic events ages 12 and older, must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR coronavirus test taken within 72 hours of the event.
"Full vaccination" means that guests have received their final COVID-19 vaccine dose at least 14 days in advance of the day of the game. Fans can purchase one general admission ticket and stay for all four championship games. Fans that leave the stadium will need to purchase another ticket to re-enter. All tickets must be purchased through the link below through the University of Delaware's digital ticketing vendor and there will be no cash sales at the event.
UD is coming off a 2011 season that saw the Blue Hens post a 7-4 record and win the final three games for head coach K.C. Delaware returns 21 players with starting experience, including All-CAA selections in running back Andrew Pierce, wide receiver Nihja White, linebacker Paul Worrilow and cornerback and kick returner Travis Hawkins. The Blue Hens' schedules and those of its 11 CAA comrades were revealed. All of those schools, with the exception of opting-out Towson, are also playing a spring schedule beginning in the coming weeks after the 2020 fall season was cancelled because of COVID-19. Fans looking to renew season tickets or become season ticket members for the 2021 fall season can find information here. Delaware State plays two of its last three 2021 games on the road, beginning with a trip to Baltimore to face Morgan State on Nov. 6.
The Hornets have lost two straight and six of their last seven games against the Bears. This will be the third consecutive meeting between the teams at MSU's Hughes Stadium. The Hornets will wrap up the three-game home stand with a meeting against Howard on Oct. 30. Delaware State swept two games against the Bison in the spring, winning at home and in Washington, D.C.
The Hornets will play seven games at Alumni Stadium this fall, including three of their five MEAC contests. For example, two games against Utah in 2028 and 2030 will net DSU $575,000 for each game against the Utes. The game in the 2022 season against BYU will pay out $425,000 to Dixie State. Games against FBS opponents, which are much harder to schedule, will not be moved or canceled. There's also a significant payout with most FBS games that DSU agreed to over a year in advance. However, there are still a handful of untouchable games on the 'Blazers' future schedules.
The WAC is working on a scheduling agreement with another FCS conference which should help the schedule. That would most likely be the biggest factor in allowing DSU to finish its 2021 slate of games. "What we're waiting on is for the new WAC schools to get their schedules figured out," Boothe said.
"We'll have some WAC games, but we won't have a full schedule like they will." Home games against Sacramento State and Weber State will stay, as will the away games at South Dakota State and U.C. The other home games against Missouri State and Fort Lewis are "okay as of today," according to Boothe. North Alabama needed to move from the Oct. 30, 2021 date, but DSU has UNA schedule for games in St. George in 2023 and in Florence in 2024.

We aspire for our coaches and student-athletes to exemplify the excellence and integrity of the Georgetown community. The question for the Blue Hens will be centered around whether or not its senior class will choose to return to the team for one final season of Delaware football. Due to the pandemic, student-athletes across the country missed out on valuable eligibility as collegiate sports shut down play amid the pandemic. Student-athletes had their seasons and postseasons taken away from them.

† – Albany, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island opted out of the remainder of the spring season on March 31, April 6, and April 7 respectively. The Blue Hens' 2021 seven-game spring schedule also begins against Maine on March 6 at Delaware Stadium. In addition to Towson, the CAA foes Delaware will not face in the fall of 2021 are Elon and New Hampshire. Delaware's 2021 CAA schedule does not reflect the original 2020 slate that, without the pandemic and cancellation of the season, would have likely had the same teams playing at the opposite sites in 2021.
The league aimed to reduce travel and flights in devising the new 2021 schedules. The Celebration Bowl has officially sold out of tickets for the Dec. 18 matchup... The Hornets will wrap up their 2021 home schedule with a Nov. 13 contest against Norfolk State. The Spartans have won the last three meetings, although the Hornets hold a 16-9 lead in the series.

Delaware State led on three occasions in the contest before Merrimack scored the last 16 points to earn the win. Delaware State hits the road for the first time with a visit to East Tennessee State, also a new opponent, on Sept. 18. The Buccaneers, members of the FCS Southern Conference, postponed their 2020 season to the 2021 spring, posting a 4-2 overall record, including a 2-1 mark in the conference. The Hornets are also home the following Saturday (Sept. 11) to face first-time opponent Georgetown of the FCS Patriot League. The Hoyas were 5-6 overall and 1-5 in the Patriot League in their last season of competition in 2019. Delaware State will kick off its 11-game schedule at home on Sept. 4 against old rival Bowie State (Md.) for Hall of Fame / Champions Weekend.
The Hornets and Bulldogs will be meeting for the first time since 1984, and the fifth time overall. Delaware State has claimed the last three contests, winning 13-0 in 1934, 18-9 in 1936 and 70-8 in 1984 to hold a 3-1 series lead. Especially since DSU would owe BYU $1 million if the 'Blazers were to be the ones to cancel the game against the Cougars. The University of Delaware announced Friday it has added a game with the Trailblazers on Oct. 30, taking the place of Dixie State's game at North Alabama. The system that NCAA and collegiate sports programs operate by is a system in which the program often exploits the student-athlete. The move of providing an extra year of eligibility is one of the few instances in which the NCAA gives the student-athlete some sort of power and the ability to make the choice to return to school for themselves.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association decided to take action and grant student-athletes an extra year of eligibility because of the lost season due to the pandemic. This was the right move for the NCAA as it allowed student-athletes to make the decision of returning for their last year of eligibility. This change in schedule on top of the newly announced fall schedule makes for a busy 2021 for Delaware.
Each student-athlete will be permitted two guests to attend home sporting events using electronic ticket access via a QR code. There is no change to face covering requirements for boys lacrosse athletes, coaches, officials, event staff or spectators. All game times are tentative and could be altered due to television schedules.
